Place your heart in my small hands
Walk along with me, baby
We could fall in love
Tell me, that you want me too
A love meant to last, yes
Tell me all your truths, wont you?
A small connection made, tonight
Two souls becoming one
(Two souls becoming one)
When we touch, its not enough
I must know your heart
Share with me, your deep mystery
And then this love shall bloom
Place your heart in my small hands
Whisper to me love, tell me
All your hopes and dreams
We’ll be, in a love forevermore
(In a love forevermore)
Place your heart in my small hands
Whisper to me love, tell me
All your hopes and dreams
Place your heart in my small hands
I was thinking about my own relationship while writing this song. When I notice that a love song has a heavy focus on physical attraction I do not feel as connected to the work because my love language has always been verbal. I feel truly connected to my partner when we are able to openly and honestly share our feelings – it creates a vulnerability in both parties involved and a trust is formed.
My process for writing this song was to pick an existing song that I already knew that I liked (in this case “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” by Paul Anka and Joe Sherman) and alter the lyrics because I am not very musically inclined when it comes to creating a melody. Once I did that I reworded the existing lyrics to tell the audience about the kind of love that I crave – one that relies on communication and honesty as is foundation rather than sexuality and physical attraction.
This exercise was extremely difficult for me because as I’ve shared, music and melody does not come easily for me. Visual art and graphic design come so natural to me that I barely even have to think about it – something just “feels” right or wrong when I’m creating that type of art. However with music I often feel extremely lost and unsure if the piece I’m creating is “working” or not.
I highly doubt I will ever write another song for the above mentioned reasons but I would never put it completely out of the realm of possibility. If I did write another song I think it might be fun to write something whimsical and fun, perhaps about my cats or rollerskating.
